On Sunday, November 13, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), England defeated Pakistan by five wickets to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
England won the toss and elected to bowl first, with Sam Curran (3/12) especially shining as he helped hold Pakistan to 137/8. Then in the World Cup final, Ben Stokes (52 not out off 49 balls) produced another brilliant knock to help his side win.
As per cricketing video, the World Cup as a whole provided some high-quality cricket and a lot of shocks, but the final was a very one-sided affair since Pakistan’s batsmen fail to show up.
- Ireland’s Dramatic Celebrations After Their Victory Over England –
In the Super 12 match at the MCG, Ireland defeated England by the slim margin of five runs (using the D/L system).
Andrew Balbirnie, captain of the Irish squad, batted first and scored 62 runs off 47 balls. The team eventually scored 157 runs. Then, in his maiden session, England’s captain Jos Buttler (0) and Alex Hales (7) were both removed by Joshua Little.
- Shaheen Afridi’s Brutality Against Alex Hales –
Due to an injury, Shaheen Afridi was forced to leave the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 in discomfort, unable to finish his allotted number of overs of bowling.
He gave Pakistan early hope in their defense, though, by dismissing Hales (1) with a superb delivery.
A ball on excellent length allowed the left-arm seamer to curve back sharply from over the wicket. Hales attempted a spectacular slashing play to get the ball past the goal line, but he was no match for the speed and momentum of the play. The ball’s impact with the stumps was all he heard.
- Direct hit by Rahul to sprint out Litton Das –
KL Rahul, an opener for Team India, had two fifty-plus scores at the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, his run-out of Litton Das in the Super 12 encounter against Bangladesh will be in people’s minds longer. Bangladesh seemed to be in good shape at 68/1 chasing a target of 185, which was reduced to 151 after 16 overs owing to rain.
- Zimbabwe Beat Pakistan By A Single Run –
In a nail-biting matchup, Zimbabwe edged out Pakistan by a score of 20–19 in Perth for a Super 12 spot in the Twenty20 World Cup 2022. Pakistan, in their pursuit of 131, needed three runs off the last delivery. Afridi smashed Brad Evans’ full delivery to long-on. He had trouble getting going and couldn’t make it to the end of the second run, which would have knotted the score.
- Roelof van der Merwe’s Outstanding Running Catch –
South Africa’s most recent Super 12 match was against the Netherlands, where they were unsuccessful in their pursuit of victory, reaching just 90/4 while chasing 159 runs. If the Proteas had David Miller in the middle for them, they would have been more optimistic about their prospects of beating the Dutch total.
In the sixteenth over of the chase, Miller edged a pull that was bowled by Brandon Glover to the top of the off stump. Roelof van der Merwe, who used to play for South Africa in international competition, delivered a backward square leg. He fixed his attention completely on the ball, reached to his left, and slid to make an impressive catch of it. After suffering the loss of Miller, the Proteas fell to 145 for eight and were out of the running for the World Cup.
- Sensational Glenn Phillips’ Incredible Grab –
New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips made an immediate impact in the inaugural Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 with a sensational catch before scoring a superb hundred against Sri Lanka.
- The New Zealanders Won By 89 Runs In A Spectacular Victory In Sydney –
Tossing out Marcus Stoinis, Phillips’ grab was a shining of New Zealand’s excellence. Attempting an inside-out stroke, Stoinis chipped a ball from Mitchell Santner in the ninth over. It seemed like Stoinis would be safe even as Phillips raced towards the ball from the sweeper. Before the ball could touch the ground, though, the fielder made a diving catch.
- Suryakumar’s Amazing Sixes Versus Zimbabwe –
Suryakumar Yadav played some incredible strikes while leading his team to a successful run in the Twenty20 World Cup in 2022.
However, he did hit two incredible sixes throughout the game. Even by his lofty standards, the last over of India’s innings in their match against Zimbabwe in Melbourne was an absolute gem.
The grab made by Phillips that got rid of Marcus Stoinis was only one of the numerous pieces of evidence of New Zealand’s greatness on that particular day. While attempting an inside-out stroke in the ninth over, Stoinis chipped a ball to Mitchell Santner. Santner was the recipient of the ball. Phillips was running as fast as he could from the sweeper to the ball, but it seemed like Stoinis would be uninjured. However, the fielder managed to make a diving grab just in time to prevent the ball from touching the ground.
- Ben Stokes’ Winning Yell –
Except for his unbeaten 46 against Sri Lanka in a Super 12 match that England really needed to win, England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes did not make a significant contribution with the bat at the Twenty20 World Cup 2022. The reason for this was that he had saved the best for last as he had worked his way down the list.
During the championship match, England faced Pakistan with a target of 138 runs and failed to reach 45/3. However, with the patience of a monk, Stokes was able to keep the inning going. He stayed till the very end and was an integral part of the team’s success in being the first to cross the finish line. It was very appropriate that his run was the one that ensured England’s triumph in the Twenty20 World Championship. He then proceeded to let out a champion’s cry after striking Mohammad Wasim for a single toward midwicket. At that time, the party in England’s camp officially began to go into full swing.
